Office of the Chief Technologist: FY10 IRAD Recipients Selected

Dear Colleagues:

After thorough review and deliberation, my team and I have selected nearly 100 Goddard technologists, scientists, and engineers to receive support through the Center’s FY10 Internal Research and Development (IRAD) program, which provides seed money to advance technologies needed to win new missions and enhance the Center’s ability to meet NASA’s scientific goals.

The portfolio we selected is an exciting one. The technologies address technology needs in all of Goddard’s strategic lines of business. They are well balanced, opportunity driven, and forward reaching.  I am confident that their selection will continue the program’s legacy of excellence, providing the Center with the technological know-how needed to reduce technology risk and cost, and win future work.

Choosing this portfolio was not easy. The proposals we received were truly extraordinary. Well written and conceived, all addressed technologies that would distinguish the Center in areas of strategic importance. I can only wish we had the resources to fund all because many warranted support.

In closing, I want to thank our team, the technologists who wrote outstanding proposals and the reviewers who dedicated hours analyzing the submissions and making the difficult decisions of where to invest our precious resources. We could not have accomplished this without their hard work.
