This business area focuses on solar, heliospheric, and geospace physics and includes research in:
- Solar structure and magnetic activity
- Generation of the solar wind
- Heliospheric structure and dynamics produced by solar disturbances
- Magnetosphere-ionosphere coupling in response to the solar wind
- Upper atmospheric effects, and possible effects on the Earth’s climate.
Wavelength coverage spans gamma rays to microwaves and also includes particles and fields. Detectors, detector read-outs, in-situ instrument technologies, optics, receivers, and cryogenic systems to support instrument technologies are just a few of the technologies needed in this business area.
